Switching your cartridge to Mode 3

  3. Twist clockwise until it clicks into place — no tools needed
  4. Run the shower for 15-20 seconds before your first use to clear loose media from the new cartridge

FAQ

How do I know if I need Mode 3 instead of Mode 1 or 2?
Look at the water itself before you look anything up: a musty, earthy, or metallic smell, or water that keeps running discolored well past the first flush, are the clearest signs you need Mode 3's extra Tune stage — as opposed to a chlorine smell (Mode 1) or mineral scale buildup (Mode 2). Basic rust flakes and grit get caught by the shared Capture and Refine stages no matter which mode you're running; Mode 3 is for when smell and finer buildup are clearly still a problem on top of that.

Is this the same as the water being unsafe to drink?
Not necessarily the same issue — drinking water safety and shower water sediment are separate concerns. Mode 3 addresses what's physically coming through the pipes into your shower, which is a comfort and cleanliness issue rather than a drinking water certification.

Can I use Mode 3 as a general-purpose option if I'm not sure what a destination's water is like?
If you genuinely don't know what you're walking into, Mode 3 is a reasonable default since its Tune stage is built for the toughest case — old-pipe odour and organic buildup — while the shared Capture and Refine stages still catch whatever rust or sediment shows up regardless of mode. You can always switch to Mode 1 or 2 later in the trip if the water turns out to be more about chlorine or hardness than smell.

Will Mode 3 fix low water pressure?
No — Mode 3 filters what's in the water, it doesn't change plumbing pressure. Some destinations with old pipework do run lower pressure regardless of filtration.
